Who are we?

Spencer Goad - Owner/Editor in chief/Head Geek
Spencer started TabletPCBuzz and has done all design and programming work on the site. He is a student who has a passion for mobile computing and technology gadgets in general... otherwise known as a geek. :-) Over the past few years Spencer has worked as an intern for Universities in various capacities including Help Desk Technician, and Educational Technology Developer. Spencer has experience with the Internet and computers since 1994 when he first went online with a Compaq 486/66 computer and Windows 3.1. Since that time Spencer has concentrated on his studies and learning various programming languages, he now knows VB, ASP and ASP.Net (VBScript), JavaScript and VB.Net (unless you also count QuickBasic for DOS programming). Spencer is also certified by Brainbench as a Computer Support Technician, Windows NT Administrator, and E-commerce concepts analyst. Spencer now uses these skills on TabletPCBuzz as editor in chief and head geek; you will see Spencer's work showing up in front page news posts, reviews, as well as any new features on the site. In April of 2003 Spencer was awarded the Microsoft MVP award for his work on the site. Before TabletPCBuzz Spencer owned and operated HANDeComputing.com, a PDA news and community site.

Justin Stigall - Forum Moderator
Justin was the second person to join the TabletPCBuzz team, to help moderate the forums. He is currently an undergraduate student at Indiana University majoring in Computer Science. He works at the Geology Department at IU and served as webmaster on a variety of projects there before settling down as IT support for the department. There he deals with supporting faculty and staff with their computing problems. He’s been an adamant computer and gadget freak since his first computer, the Macintosh SE. He’s constantly trying out the latest software and is a member of many beta programs. He admittedly doesn’t know any computer languages because he doesn’t have the time to learn them, but since he’s going into computer science he’ll have to learn them sometime! You’ll find him keeping the forums in order and making sure his opinions are known to everyone. Pet peeves: Posts in the wrong forum, cross-forum posting, advertisements in posts and bad websites. Prepare to go searching for your post if you put it in the wrong place. He’s always willing to help out if you have a question, just ask!

Peter Rysavy - News Editor
Peter joined the TabletPCBuzz team as a News Editor in February of 2003. He is currently the webmaster and network administrator at Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington, DE. He has been instrumental in transitioning the college to a new Exchange 2000 e-mail system and is responsible for managing the academic network, including the recently added wireless LAN. After three years IT training at the National Institute of Information Technology in New Delhi, India, Peter graduated with top honors and was asked by NIIT to do some software prototyping for both the local and district student placement divisions. After doing some freelance technology consulting in both New Delhi and Prague (where he originally hails from) and completing his MCSE certification, Peter got his Bachelor’s degree in MIS and later his MBA in Delaware. You can see Peter's work on TabletPCBuzz in his front page news posts.

Dennis Rice - Forum Moderator
Dennis is an independent certified Microsoft systems engineer (MCP, MCSA, and MCSE), developer, and consultant working from Brunswick, GA. He served for 16 years as the IT Director for an international not for profit organization traveling the world doing systems management, design, and installation for an extensive Microsoft LAN, WAN, and email network in the U.S., Africa, and South America. With experience in a large range of Microsoft products, he now offers independent systems services, while learning and performing application development utilizing new development tools from Microsoft (primarily Visual Studio.Net 2003, C#). Of particular interest is developing for the Tablet PC platform. You will find Dennis on TabletPCBuzz in the forums helping to keep things in order, as well as an occasional front page news post. In April of 2003 Dennis was given the Microsoft MVP award for his participation and work on TabletPCBuzz.

You - The Members
Yes that is right, this site would be nothing and we wouldn't even be here if it weren't for you. We mention you last, but you are certainly not least! Thanks for your participation in this community.

Site History

First Incarnation
TabletPCBuzz in its first incarnation was started by Spencer Goad in March of 2002 as a web-site for people to find information and discuss the upcoming TabletPC platform from Microsoft. Spencer mainly developed the site as a programming project, but went ahead and decided to open it to the public because of his passion for mobile computing. Unfortunately with the TabletPC launch still 8 months away, there wasn't much demand and Spencer closed the site 2 months later in May.

In Between
After Spencer closed the site, he originally planed not to open it again. Mainly developed as a programming project in the first place, he felt it was hardly worth it. However, as more news started to leak out about the Tablet PC Spencer, being the geek that he his, got excited about the platform once more and decided to go ahead and open TabletPCBuzz again. In August of 2002 Spencer gave the site a large facelift and software upgrade and prepared to open...

Second Incarnation
On August 20th of 2002 Spencer reopened the doors of TabletPCBuzz ready for a fresh start. Things went slowly at first, as interest in the TabletPC platform began to build. When Acer released its TabletPC in October the first real discussion started to take place on the site. Numbers remained small, with under 10,000 sessions logged that month. Then came November and the TabletPC launch... numbers skyrocketed reaching over 65,000 sessions logged. Since then the site has continued to grow reaching 500 members in December of 2002, 1,000 members in January of 2003, 2,000 members in March of 2003, and 4,000 members in August of 2003.. TabletPCBuzz now (Second week of September 2003) has over 4,100 members and has over 42,000 sessions logged a week.
