Some Light
Entertainment in Honor of Father's Day By Bill Mann
Here's a
quickie in honor of Father's Day. Do you know about the Tablet PC PowerToys?
As with previous versions of Windows, Microsoft makes available some unsupported
utilities and games that you can download and use for free. The set that's
designed for the Tablet PC is on the Microsoft PowerToys for Tablet PC
web page. While there is some of serious stuff there like desktop extenders
and a thumbnail image viewer, there are also a load of toys and games.
Some of the goodies include:
Art Tool
Drawing
Animator Toy
Hoop Strategy
Game
Pool
and several more.
To download
and install PowerToys, go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/tabletpc/downloads/powertoys.asp
and have at it.
A couple
of things you should be aware of:
Several
of the PowerToys use setup programs with the same name (Setup.exe).
That means you should either download each PowerToy into its own folder,
or install each one before downloading the next to ensure that you don't
overwrite the setup program.
You can
run all your PowerToys from the PowerToys for Tablet PC folder. You
can reach this folder by tapping Start | All Programs | PowerToys For
Tablet PC.
Want
to know how to do everything with your Tablet PC? Here's the book
that shows you how.

Some new
information here on an upcoming Tablet PC from Electrovaya. The new Scribbler
SC1000 will reportedly come out sometime this month, and is powered by
a 1Ghz Transmeta Crusoe processor. It also has 512Mb of RAM, 30Gb hard
drive, and built in wired and wireless networking (802.11b). The SC1000
has a 12 inch screen, and weighs in at 3.3 pounds. As such it is a good
deal smaller than Electrovaya's previous model, although it still isn't
the lightest of the current crop of Tablet PCs. No information on pricing
is available yet. More details on the SC1000 can be found in this image,
which is an official spec sheet of the SC1000. (Link)
