Cool pic! I do something similarly with a TC1000. Mount by mobileX, global Sat GPS with delorme road atlas software. Its also serving up Mp3s via a cassette adapter. It's great.
How do you rate the Verizon air card? Easy to setup and get online? How about when moving? Is it costly? Do they have different packages? |

Nice job - the mount in your auto looks clean and well-finished. I am using mine for similar use, except I don't have it mounted yet - I'm going a more spartan way - industrial-strength velcro on the passenger-side dash. But yours has more panache. Good job!
$750 is not bad for a complete mobile GPS/Video/MP3/Gaming/Internet car system, especially considering good-quality stand-alone GPS system would cost $700 at the least.
How do you access the net? Wireless hotspots? Is there a place I can get a map of the hotspots when I travel?

surfing the internet with a verizon wireless air card is cool. i dont get dropped internet connection when it switches from cell to cell. its hell of expensive...go to verizonwireless.com for more inft. The coverage is basically 93% of the country...no hotsopots, none of that...
the service runs $29.99 for like 20 megs i have unlimited internet from verizon wireless $79.99....i cruise the internet about 80kbps. now you can also cruise free just use airtime minutes but look at speed at 14.4kbps

Neat installation. What type of mount did you use? It looks like it might be a Ram mount. Where did you get it? I am going to install my 3400 into a Toyota Tundra and the console is very similar to yours with the large bay in the front. |

Looks great! Good job!
A question: is your ST3400 running with the full LCD brightness in your pics? If so - is it enough on a sunny day?
Thanks...

The mount is an LCD mount. LCD mounts are steel and can hold the tablet in a locking place.. Yes the screen is full brightness and can be seen in the day. You can buy the iJuice and have it charge from the cigarrette lighter. Otherwise the GPS, Aircard will drain the 3400 battery. |

Very cool installation. I went a different route for in-car mainly because I don't have that kind of space
The verizon service you have is that the wireless DSL?

I did it in case something happens in the usa...I will hit the road with my computer and gold...for information on a data card go to verizonwireless.com if you order on line I think they are on $49.99 but the monthly service will set you back $79.99 for unlimited access to the internet..Worth every penny.

Ok, granted, it's late, & I've had two martinis, so maybe I'm in the wrong here, but why the *%$^ are you showing off the sheet of gold coins you tote with you in your car? I mean, your tablet setup is interesting, don't get me wrong, but do you really think that we're all that impressed with your financial constitution? Is this meant to compensate for the glimpse of your meaty thigh, devoid of any physiological definition? Get real, & spare me the pomposity!

Your wife would be better, (especially if she's cute & uninhibited,) than the gold bullion. Coz even if you really *are* James Bond, putting a c.$7500 bounty on your own head is against department policy. (And if you're not 007, UNIX experience is pretty much useless against rogues & enemy spies.)
Okay, no more off-topic posting in my cups, I promise-

On the subject of vehicle stuff, does anyone know the minumum DC input voltage for the 3400, just to run it, not to attempt to charge the battery since the battery is just dead weight.
As a dedicated cheapskate I don't want to buy the iJuice. I am thinking of building a simple protection/regulation circuit, yeilding, a clean, just about 13.0 volts.
It sure seems a waste to get a cheap inverter, create 110AC, then rectify/regulate that, all to get from 13.8 to 16.0 VDC. not to mention the wanton dedicated use of an AC adapter, that i would rather have elsewhere. |

IMHO, car adapters for the 3400/3500 are pretty inexpensive and easy to come by(just got one off of eBay myself). Not sure if I could justify the time and expense to do my own.
