Hi,

I am new here, but haven't found a comparison table anywhere. Perhaps someone can make a suggestion.

I am after a tablet PC for use in a light aircraft, for displaying instrument approach plates and similar. Also, on the ground it wants to be usable for internet access with a PCMCIA GPRS card but this bit should be possible with just about anything.

The requirements are:

1. About 8" to 9" diagonal (the nice new Fuji ones are too big)
2. Battery life of a "few" hours
3. Decent viewing angle
4. Viewable in direct sunlight too
5. Display backlight brightness must be easily adjustable (or automatic from ambient light sensing, like e.g. the Ipaq 5450)
6. Screen res 800x600 or better.
7. PCMCIA slot.

Speed isn't important. No keyboard is required although it must be possible to display one on-screen, for very simple text entry.

I have seen the Scribbler but from the reviews the screen isn't good for this use.

Any suggestions?

Have a look at the M1400va. I bought mine with this in mind. If you do a search of the threads there are probably a couple of threads there about this specific topic.

no! its bad! Wait till im done with mine *angry fist*. Becides that one is clearly simplistic and outdated. My list is just about finished I think (everytime I say that some scarce tablet PC shows up) and there is something like 74 different models. That list was also missing 3 Rugged Tablet PCs so CLEARLY mine will be superior. So ha.

Electrovya sent me an eval unit and I'll have a review posted on the 'Buzz later today. they do sell an outdoor screen option.

The Scribbler will be too big for your needs. It has a 12.1" screen.
