Josh Einstein is experimenting with integrating voice and TE0. That would be a great enhancement. I'll see a demo of it at Windows Anywhere.

Just to clarify, this isn't for data entry, but for carrying on a dialogue with Outlook and it will likely be available for non-tablets as well. |

I'm afraid I can't really go into specifics of the conversation just yet, but one thing I can hint at is that Einstein Technologies is focusing on VoIP these days so you can expect to see dial by name and number as well. But there will be other non-telephony conversations possible too. |

I use vonage. They have a click to call feature that takes too many steps to use efficiently. This is something, while highly specialized at this point, ovelapping a few small, but growing markets, could be a nice thing. I've been noticing that I have to now remember phone numbers t call for the first time in years, without voice calling and my cell phone book. Good luck!!

What do you mean by too many steps? Highlight the phone number and hit F6? That seems pretty straightforward. |

Trev, Einstein Tech has a feature coming out for Sylantro based systems that will make Vonage's click to call look dumb as a brick. |

thats assuming that i have outlook on-screen, and my contact list, not my mailboxes or calender up. and if im using the tablet, well, there isn't an F6, since the keyboard hasn't been used in ages. then ive gotta figure out which icon is which phone and click that after highlighting the name. finally, ive gotta make sure the darn phone is nearby when it starts ringing.....
[NOTE: Apparently, this post needed editing for content! My use of the a word, quite innocuous was considered "bad language". Replace "darn" with "Hoover ___" and add an "n". I apologize if I possibly offended anyone.
However, as a parent myself, I believe anyone sheltering kids this way is setting themselves up for teen years consisting of extreme rebellion and experimentation. Talk to your kids about the right and wrong way to say/do things. Don't ignore and censor. Even the most heinous "bad language" can be used appropriately under the right circumstances. It's not the words themselves that are bad, its the way we use them. I can't help but chuckle and feel sorry for those who believe that this type of "protection" is good for their children.] |

Sounds cool Josh, looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
[mtbaldwin - Not to vary from topic here, but I feel I need to comment. In case you are interested, I started this site in 2002. I was 15 at the time, and I've kept the same forum rules and guidelines since then. So, obviously I have no kids of my own to try and "ignore and censor". I do watch myself closely though, and never use language that I may regret using later. Not to try and brag, but I find many people I come in contact with are much more impressed with this than just about anything, due to the sad state of the american english language today. Instead of swearing every 5 minutes like alot of teens I meet, I'm able to communicate just as strongly and easily as they are by not using those type of words. And by keeping that type of anger out of it, I find communication can be much easier.
So, all that to say, I felt you should know that it was one of those kids you were worried about censoring who setup the forum rules in the first place. Thanks for understanding!] |

Well done, Spencer! Once again, you demonstrate that you are person of great character and an example to us all!
I think I will start a new thread, but I would like Outlook voice recognition along the lines of an older Dragon product called Dragon Naturally Organized.
On the included handheld dictation recorder, I could say, "schedule an appointment with Josh Einstein on Monday at 2pm," and when I connected the digital recorder, it would synch via Naturally Organized to Outlook open an Outlook calendar item fill in the next Monday's date and the time and link to Josh's contact record. All I had to do was correct any mis-recognized items and save and close! |

Alright I'm sorry to say this Spencer but I'm not gonna post here anymore. Masking out the word (vaccuum action produced by muscles in the mouth such as what you'd do to a straw) from my post is crossing the line. This is not Walt Disney. |

I second this. I have worked with Spencer on this site for over two years, and have found him to be the absolute easiest to get along with on this censorship issue. One reason for this is that we as moderators (meaning Spencer and I) rarely run into much need to do any editing, but will not hesitate to do so if we feel the language will in any way offend anyone, but rarely if ever edit content. C'mon folks, you know if your language is questionable! As long as the editing of posts does not interfere with the content, what is the big deal? There are plenty of good words to convey emotion etc. without using questionable ones.
This is a quality site, and we all know it. Thanks Spencer, once again. |

Censorship offends me. If it was hostile language, I could see the point. Innocuous words such as the ones that have been censored are crossing the line. As stated before, this is not a children's BBS. You will hear the same words on Nickolodeon or any movie that your grandparents have seen. It's Spencer's board and he has the right to do whatever he wants, but I can't contribute to something that spits into the faces of our founding fathers and the men and women who died to protect the freedoms that have no place here. And aside from a final post to explain my departure and the new location for TEO support, this shall be my last.
(And PS, you are unfortunately misguided if it is the words that you fear. If I say "darn!" then I mean the exact same thing as if I said the word you don't like. The FCC has taught us that you can express whatever feelings you like, you just have to stick to their dictionary. This is wrong on so many levels.) |

I know the creator is a teen, and Spencer, you are to be commended for your efforts here. I have found this board quite entertaining and informative. It was Rob who sent me the censorship notice, so my response was tensed and directed more towards him. Your attitude towards language is exact correct. There was nothing I regret about my speech in my poat. In fact, the word "D***" was used for comedic emphasis, as We all understand the feeling of chasing down a ringing cordless phone. It was, in my opinion, a completely appropriate use of the word.
I believe that your choice of where to censor language is both unnecessary and counter-productive to the goals of an on-line community. (In fact, if this was a public not private space, I believe I could make a legal argument the rule is both vague and overbroad, hence unconstutional. but as i said its a private space so the constution doesn't apply) Instead, I appeal to common sense and reason. Surely at the age of 15 you understood the words used in this thread. In fact, im sure you use them (altho outside of parental earshot). (Anyone who claims they never curse is a ****ing liar.) I can use the phrase "fat pig" in reference to my neighbor's swine or his wife. One's a compliment, one is most likely not. Words are simply that. Every word has appropriate usage.
It seems as if you desire to create an open community dedicated to issues related to tablet pc's. This includes a far ranging variety of people. What you consider "bad language" is surely your own opinion. By such blanket insensitivity you create issues that needn't exist. Tolerance is a great virtue.
As for the parenting issues. I've found it better to talk rationally with about issues with people and kids than to simply ban them completely in some vague fashion.
Thats the last I'll have to say on the issue. I'm sorry that Josh feels so strongly he chooses to leave as a result. His contributions were of great help at times. Me personally, I'll come for information. Probably post even less often (no real loss there).
Best of luck out there on the right wing.
