TabletPCBuzz.com - which glue to use to fix screen case?
Make sure you have the right forum when posting! (For example, post your software questions in the software forum, not in any of the hardware forums.) Thanks! ~TabletPCBuzz Moderators
Was the LCD panel originally glued to the bezel? It seems odd, but I've never taken mine apart. If there is any adhesive present from the factory I wonder if they used something like a double sided tape (very thin foam) to act as a cushion. If glue was used then I would think it would be a glue that can be removed at a later date without damaging the components (No crazy glue!). Possibly Radio Shack would have something that would foot the bill.
If you do go ahead and take your screen apart, will you take pictures for the rest of us? ^^
Anyway, I've been trying to find out as much as I can about disassembling the screen and how it's constructed, since I want to find out precisely why my digitizer is breaking (again!) and if I can fix it myself. I did find a service manual for the M275 ($10 from http://computerdoc.homestead.com/GatewayNotebooks.html), including lots of nifty disassembly instructions, for everything *but* the screen assembly.
The best information I can find is about other similar-ish tablet convertibles. There are some great pictures of thoroughly disassembling the Acer TravelMate C300 at http://www.mobile01.com/topicdetail.php?f=163&t;=28351 (unfortunately, the text is in Chinese!), which has the same size screen and the same exact digitizer, I think. There's also some on the Toshiba M200 here, http://tabletpcbuzz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9410&whichpage;=2. These might give some insight.
double sided tape might be the answer. I have not taken it apart yet. The bottom of the screen (where the buttons are) is coming apart again. I might ask the fellows at Radio Shack.
