Hello folks:

I am experiencing a very weird problem with my 2010 battery. It seems to charge fully to 100% (according to the power meter in control settings), and after a bit over an hour, the computer shuts off all of a sudden. I then re-plug and check the power meter and it is at 86%. I can recharge the battery and start over again, but it will not last more than this.

Any ideas? Are these batteries warranted by Electrovaya?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Fernando

Did you check your power settings in the control panel?

Your screen is set to blank, after a given time or your TPC is set to hybernate or standyby. As Northern Rebel stated, these options are in the control power power settings.

Hi folks:

Thanks for your responses. I disabled hybernation mode in power options, but the real problem is that the battery seems to be discharging at an irregular rate (perhaps it is damaged). It goes from 100% to 86% in about an hour or so, then it shuts off all of a sudden, and when I turn it back on (plugged in), the meter reads 2%. So it seems there is a lapse in the discharging rate.

What do you think?

Thanks again.

Fernando

ok that 2% figure makes a difference. I would have to agree it sounds like you have a bad battery.

First, pull the battery from your unit and wait a couple of minutes before placing it back in. This often resets parameters to work correctly.

For testing purposes, set a custom test setting and set all your power options to never go off when using the battery. In other words the power will be continually on for all components. See if the unit again turns off.

I tried taking off the battery and fiddled around with it some more. Same deal: I can get the battery fully charged, and it will run for about an hour and then it suddenly shuts off. The weird thing is that I monitor the percentage charged and it goes down slowly (as it should), but then all of a sudden it goes to 0% and I can only thrun the machine one with the AC plugged in. The shut off occurs at random (sometimes at 85%, but also at 71%, 68% in other trials).

I emailed EV and will talk to their customer service folks today. Any ideas on what to ask?

Thanks,

Fernando

It acts like you have a dead cell. I would tell them just what you said in your last post. Good luck...

As of a few days ago, I now have the same problem.

This is my second battery, and I have only been using it for about two months. I bought it as a spare last summer, and finally my original battery gave up the ghost (after 12 months only).

With that said, I have the same behavior. But mine will not last even the hour or so from 100% to 86%. After leaving the unit plugged in overnight, after bootup it will display 98% charge, then it basically shuts off after 2 mins or so. It then shows 2% charge after I reboot from AC power.

I think these batteries basically have short shelf lives.

Has anyone dealt with EV regarding replacements?
Or does EV have a trick to reactivate the cells?
