Question: Is recovery need ACER cdrom? All Forums >>
Acer
Hi, i just bought Acer C102Ti without external Acer CDROM, can i use other brand external CDROM to run the recovery CDs??? Can Acer C100 boot from other brand USB/firewire CDROM? And if i got Norton Ghost, is it better using Norton Ghost first to backup all the data, and can be restored?? Please Share..
I have used a C110 series with USB and firewire drives that are not Acer...not sure about C100 though. I would just hit F12 at the acer screen and it would show up. As for Ghost, I really dont know, but I am partial to a nice clean install over any type of backup.
It does not matter what CDROM you use, as long as the CDROM is detected and is working. What matters is the data. Any computer can boot with a multitude of external optical drives. You can use Ghost, and it is a good idea. Also, do a search on this forum for making your own Windows XP Tablet CDs.
Hi, I have got a C102Ti with firewire Acer CDROM and I cannot boot from it. I have contacted Acer and they said that there is no way to do that.
I recommend you get a USB CDROM (or other device). It is much easier to boot from a USB CDROM than a firewire CDROM. If you cannot boot directly, you can find many USB MSDOS drivers out there, i.e. you can boot from a floppy disk that mounts the USB CDROM and than manually run the recovery procedure.

Thanks for replies, i just bought new Acer DVD-CDRW combo speed CDR 24x at USB 2.0, its slim and fast.. it is actually Nu trademark (because the manual PDF said so), Acer just put their brand on it. Too bad, that my CT102i doesn't have USB 2.0; but with its Sonic Videoplayer i can still watch DVD Movies seamlessly, but with PowerDVD it's have lag.. So, if we want to use recovery CD, does we only invoke F12 button? By the way, i just purchase new Norton Ghost 9.0, may be i'll make my own backups
