I am fairly new to the Acer Tablet and have a question. When I logon to my tablet, the "Welcome" screen comes on. Also, the pen keyboard comes on and stays on until the "Welcome" screen goes away. Is this normal? Its not really a big deal, I just wanted to know if there is a way to get rid of the keyboard? Thanks in advance.

Hi dyowell,

What you have observed is indeed normal and not unique to the Acer Tablet. The TIP you see is there to allow users who are not using a fingerprint reader or who do not have a USB keyboard plugged in to enter their password or otherwise abort [change user, etc.] the login.

AFAIK, you can not get rid of that keyboard at logon, nor would you want to get rid of it. Personally, I leave my computer in slate mode during class, so I have to log in with the onscreen keyboard.

On my Compaq/HP TC1100 I had the same problem. I managed to get rid of it by the following:

1. Rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache\kbdsur.exe to something else (I simply put an '_' before it, making it _kbdsur.exe).

2. Windows will complain that the version of a file does not match windows defaults or something like that (i cant remember exactly), specify that you dont care (I can't remember the exact command )

3. rename C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ink\keyboardsurrogate.exe to something else (again i used '_').

4. Open task manager and kill the process 'keyboardsurrogate.exe'..

5. Restart your computer... the login screen should have no keyboard anymore :)
