I have a setup where my wireless router is connected to a cable modem. My desktop computer is connected to the internet via an Ethernet connection to the wireless router. My 3505 is connected to the internet via 802.11b from said wireless router. It's not critical for my desktop to have a firewall but I do need firewall protection for my tablet. However, when I turn on Internet Connection Sharing, I am unable to connect to my desktop. My question is: How can I set up a firewall on my tablet AND be able to connect to the other computers in my LAN (my desktop)? Thank you for any answer you can provide.http://www.tabletpcbuzz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=21844M200 and Freecom DVD WriterI'm just off this afternoon to pick up my eagerly awaited M200. I've read through all the posts on the various DVD re-writers which people have tested. I found all these posts very helpful - I'm sure that this forum is one I'm going to be turning to again and again.

However, none of the suggested drives to be available locally for me (and I want to get MS Office installed on the machine today), so I'm just going to pick up a Freecom Dual-Layer DVD re-writer from PC World for £99. Appreciate that it probably won't be bootable, but my nice new laptop will never go wrong and need re-building, right ? :P

I will of course test it to see if it will boot, but if it doesn't I can always boot from SD card.

Anyway, no-one in the office has one of these babies, so I'm hoping to make a lot of people very jealous. (Of course not my primary reason for purchase ;-)

...actonskin
http://www.tabletpcbuzz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=20634Buy now or wait? After a lot of research, I've finally decided that the best tablet for my needs currently on the market is the m200. The screen resolution is the main factor, and reviews and forum discussion seems to be positive. At this point I am ready to buy an m200 with 1 GB RAM, 7200 RPM HDD and an external optical drive.

BUT: I am in no rush to get a tablet PC. I could easily wait a few months if something better is coming out or if the m200 is going to be updated (for example with Sonoma). Does anyone have any advice as to whether I should wait or go for it? I know that with normal PCs and laptops you should generally always just buy "whenever" since there will always be better out the day after you buy. It seems that with Tablet PCs the m200 has been the best out there for over a year. So I would hate to buy something a year old that is replaced immediately after I buy with something significantly better.

Also, the only complaints I've read on the forums are HDD sound ("clicking") and dirt under the screen. Are either of these significant reasons to not buy the m200?

Thanks!http://www.tabletpcbuzz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=21790Trouble with Bluetooth on M200Hi everyone. I just got my first Tablet, Toshiba M205-S810 (the retail model carried by CompUSA). I am having trouble with the Bluetooth. It came preloaded with SP2 and the Toshiba BT software, but when I try to make a BT connection I get the error "Bluetooth is not ready." I've got the wireless switch on and the BT antenna icon shows in the task bar. I also tried running the Window BT monitor with no success. Is it possible that my Tablet does not even have the BT hardware? Thanks in advance for any advice, I am stumped with this.http://www.tabletpcbuzz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=21849Damn it! Dead spot!Hi Guys,

have any of you experienced this? I fear it might be hardware! :(

I have a dead "margin", about 1cm... in landscape, there is a 1cm margin on the left of the screen, which the digitizer doesn't respond in... It is as if the screen finished 1cm before the border of the screen....

It is strange because sometimes, when I press the digitizer as if I were drawing, then it goes all the way, but sometimes it doesnt... it is really annoying me! This just started a while back... I was in portrait mode and then couldnt access the taskbar! I closed some software and it started working... then it went dead again... Rebooted but it didnt come back... noew it is dead on that "margin"...

I hope this isnt yet more problems! :(http://www.tabletpcbuzz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1314New XP Install with SP2Has anyone did a fresh install of Winodows XP SP2 on the M200.
I just purchased a new copy of Windows XP with SP2 already included.
I want to do a fresh install with this disk. I have heard that SP 2 included Windows Tablet XP Tablet Edition 2005 but will the install recognize that I am installing on a tablet PC and install the tablet components?

Let me know.http://www.tabletpcbuzz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=21160Voice Recognition - M200 - M205 - UPDATES?
Who is happy doing voice recognition with M200 - M205? I'm new to the community. Had this M200 for 2 weeks now. Loving it, but I am having problems installing a bluetooth printer adapter from iogear[:(]. It had worked well with my HP laptop, (zero configuration!), but not with the M200. I used the original BT software, the latest 3.10.00 version of the Toshiba BT driver and the Widcomm driver of the iogear kit, but its not working. The M200 sees the adapter, but I'm not able to connect to it. Any gurus out there who could walk me through the installation process? I'll appreciate all your help!http://www.tabletpcbuzz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=21836Dothan 2.0 Upgrade from Banias or Dothan - Now Even Easier!Update 10/15/2004...

Now the upgrade process has been made even easier! Check out the new instructions for upgrading the CPU Table:

http://tabletpcbuzz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=14562&whichpage=17

Update 9/5/2004...

Many members have gotten this upgrade to work. For more details, check out the instructions posted starting on page 11:

http://tabletpcbuzz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=14562&whichpage=11

------------------

Well, I have upgraded my M200 to the Dothan processor, but it has not been a successful venture. Bad news, everyone...

It has been reported elsewhere that the reported speed of the processor by Windows is 598Mhz. Based on benchmarks that I have run, I can tell you that the M200 does not recognize the processor properly. It does not take full advantage of the processor. In the power settings, there are options for Levels 1-3. These levels all report 598Mhz in the System Properties page. But, in the benchmarks, they do make a difference. However, even at Level 3, the benchmarks are significantly below the 1.7 Banias chip. Results follow:

1.7B 2.0D

SiSoftware Sandra
Dhrystone DLU (MIPS) 7058 1822
Whetstone FPU (MFLOPS) 2356 589

Multimedia Integer 16065 4027
Multimedia FP 17725 4447

So, I can think of two possible things that Toshiba has done to get them to work in the new M200 shipping. One is a new BIOS revision. The other is a new motherboard revision including possible tweaks/updates to the chipset. Only time will tell.

For those of you who have ordered a new M200 with a 2.0Dothan, please report on the BIOS version on your machine when it arrives!

Just out of curiosity, I'm going to call Intel technical support to see if they can offer any solution. I will report back on my findings.http://www.tabletpcbuzz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=14562Recovery DVD error: TBIOSDRV.SYSI was trying to update MS Office 2003 and it started asking for the CABs for OneNote, so I figured out I could get those from the recovery DVD. I don't have a bootable DVD drive right now (and not inclined to buy one for this task) but I just copied the whole couple of gigs to my local Toshiba drive from a network share so I'm good to go, right?

I go to the DVD directory (now on my HD) and double click the INSTALL.EXE file as instructed. Problem is I get a huge stream of really nasty dialogs. First: "Access Denied". Second, and probably most useful:

"Error: a required file, TBIOSDRV.SYS was not found"
"Can't determine machine type"

Looking in the directory the file is right there next to INSTALL.EXE, plain as day. But I figure it needs to be "installed" somehow and running. I checked on my computer and sure enough that file was already in C:\Windows\System32\drivers, although it was an older date so I backed the one I had up and replaced it with the one from the DVD. I restarted the machine, still no luck.

Things checked so far include running SiSoftware's tool, verifying that I am up to date on pretty much everything you can download from Toshiba, including having been running the 1.60 BIOS for a while now. The OS and such is factory installed. Here is what I have:

Portege M200 (pretty new)
1.70ghz CPU (pretty sure its a Dothan as I recall)
1gig RAM
60gig drive
Windows XP Tablet edition 2005 / SP2

I have some interesting software installed like all of office, Norton System Works and personal firewall, but no indication of those causing a problem.

Incidently, I get an army of dialogs after those above. They tell me to change my "product name" but the tool to change the name never pops up probably due to the TBIOS error. I just get access denied, and then I have 2, then 1, then 0 attempts left, etc. Then it makes some nasty remark about my mother and I can finally stop getting dialogs ;)

Thoughts? Not a critical issue right now other than I am affraid I may need this silly disk someday for something serious and it won't work!

~Timhttp://www.tabletpcbuzz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=21833
