Tablet PC Buzz

Cracked glass

Hello,

My wonderful 18-month-old neice just tripped with a bowl in her hand and whacked the screen of my M275, leaving a perfect little star in the upper left corner. The LCD behind the glass seems unharmed.

Several questions:

Are the glass and the LCD separate components? (My wallet is praying that they are.)

Either way, is this something I have to purchase directly from Gateway, or can it be found somewhere else?

Finally, has anyone taken apart the monitor casing, and/or does anyone know where I can find step-by-step directions for doing so? I've replaced the casing before on a Dell, and was able to find such instructions right on their website, but so far haven't found any such thing on the Gateway site.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Silence is not always golden!

It appears that the sound card on my GW M275XL may have "given up the ghost" this weekend. No sound from either the speakers or line out. I've tried reinstalling the drivers and going back to an earlier restore point to rule out software issues. Has anyone else been able to resolve a similar issue without sending the TPC in for repair?

M275 Setting Question?

We have an M275 that doesn't show the handwritten word until the word is completed and the pen is lifted from the screen. We would prefer for the ink to show instantaneously.

Seems this should be a settings issue, but I can't find the setting option at all.

Any thoughts?

I decided that since i have some webspace to kill, I might use it to my advantage. I am doing this for a few reasons.
1. I know people need the drivers.
2. Gateway has made me mad that they are now selling computers with the medialess install of windows. they add a partition on your HD with the restore disk on it... Found this out after I made my girlfriend buy a laptop, and I sat on the phone for 3 hours figureing out that they can't even get me the CD. (this can cause major problems)
3. Freedom of Information

Please get this zip file while you can, burn it to a CD for backups.
I don't know how long my Server will allow this much data to go through. So enjoy it while you can.

Fix for Wobbly Moniter

Here is how I fixed my moniter. Note I have had to it a couple times because it seems to come alittle lose every once in a while.

1. Get a percision screwdriver kit
2. Keep a number 0 (phillips) and a 1.4mm flat head handy
3. Remove the screw (#0) from the swivel that you can see when you have the tablet in notebook mode (front).
4. Use the 1.4mm to remove the little metal piece
5. Close the notebook (as you would to put it into stand by mode mainly to protect the display).
6. Remove the screw from the outside swivel (#0).
7. Now use the 1.4mm to remove the metal piece.
8. You should see two wire bundles (one grey and one black).
9. Move them a little so you can see the four screws (two on each side) on the mounts.
10. Tightened them down as much as you can with the #0.
11. Put back together.

Like I said above this makes it seem sturdier, but it still wobbles alittle. Also over time you will notice that is reverts back. So you will just have to do this everyonce in awhile. I have done it twice in two weeks (also because I am trying to fix my damn internal mics loose wire.)

Hope this helps. It is not a 100% fix but it does seem to make it wobble less. Thanks.

Question re: Wacom digitzer

Has any one tried using the M275 with a Wacom digitizer tablet? My wife likes to use her M275 in Notebook mode but does a lot of graphic design. SO I was thinking of getting her wacom to draw her graphics, easier using a pen then a mouse or touchpad

Would anyone recommend it, or should I forget about it?

Pressure sensitivity not available in Adobe Products

I purchased a gateway M275 a couple weeks ago and so far have been very impressed with it as a productivity tool.

I have been disappointed with problems that i am having with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. The pressure sensitivity options in both programs are not available!!! Does anyone know what gives?

Perhaps there is a third party driver that will jumpstart my setup. My father had purchased the same tablet a number of months ago, and ran into the same problem with Corel Draw.

Has anyone else had success with pressure sensitive brushes/pens in illustrator, photoshop, or CorelDraw?

Screen-side buttons

Hi,

I just formate my hd and reinstalled windows TPC and everything works right but the buttons on the screen (rotate, tip, brightness....) I installed all of the drivers off gateway's webste, but no help.

Any ideas?

Increase RAM to 1 GB

What would I notice if I were to increase the RAM of my M1400 from 528K to 1 GB?
I use the M1400 for writing with MS Word 2003. I use NaturallySpeaking V8 voice recognition software along with the pen.
I also use the M1400 for access to the Web.
No games or CAD.
