President Bush's Proposed Budget

What do you bthink of the newly proposed budget? Basically, it provides more money for the military and less money for many social programs. When items such as partially privatizing social security are added in, the deficit is enormous, perhaps actually A trillion dollars.

Proper English usage

Okay, this is me ranting.

I am really dismayed by the apparent lack of English speaking and writing skills. With the popularity of Instant Messaging, Text-based SMS messaging, online gaming, and forums such as these, the ability to write coherently is a lost art.

I am not an English teacher. I am a professional software developer and project manager. I sent an email out to our organization (quite large), and received back the following reply:

The parenthesis are my removing industry specific titles. The only thing that this tells me is to discount his opinion totally, because he is not intelligent enough to actually write a legible paragraph.

I understand that languages are constantly evolving, and for the most part, are constantly simplifing. I, for one, do not like the direction that it is taking.

How can Toshiba get away with such a sorry device? Honestly the screen was out of the 80's. The physical touch felt like cheap-plastic fisher price toys with a horrible black finish. The convertible screen felt as if it was going to break off.

I even scratched the paint off with my finger nail to test out durability. Sitting next to the Sony's with X-Bright Technology, the Toshiba was a pititful disgrace.

***** all to **** - I want a screen that will smack me in the face all scream I'm your daddy. I want a casing that is durable like a Sony. How can companies get away with such pitiful devices?

Get rid of the filter on the board

Now, the filter is a good thing, and I understand the purpose, but it kills words like ***ume, cl***, h***le, etc.

Can you please remove it!!!

Do you read all of your email daily?

I work in a company that relies heavily on email. I get about 90-120 messages per day. Thankfully, usually only about 50% or so need responses, but I read all of my messages daily and file them appropriately.

My co-workers do not.

I'd say the average is probably 100-150 unread messages with some as high as 500-600. Is this common? These are professionals and professionally related email, not jokes and chain mail. I'm flabbergasted when an urgent email (marked as such) is not responded to and when I call the person, they've never even read the email 2 days later.

I'm curious. Am I an anomaly or are my co-workers?

What Did You Tablet Get for Christmas?

Photography Take 2

We had a thread going a while back about photography, but since it has been a while I thought I'd bring the topic back in a new thread.

I bought myself a Canon EOS20D at the end of December, and have been using it quite a bit since then. It is a really nice camera, although I had some trouble with the color quality of the photos for a while. Thanks to a tip from Jason Kravitz (http://jason.aminus3.com), I was able to fix this with a custom paremeter setting on the camera. The EOS20D obviously isn't the most portable camera, but it takes great photos and is very flexible in so far as letting me control exposure, film speed, etc for every shot.

I've started a photo blog and I'm going to try and post at least one photo a day. I got it online earlier this week, and then my server completely crashed forcing an OS re-install, so I've had just a little trouble getting this started.
